National Primary Games | 2017

The National Primary Games (NPG) is a unique Sports Carnival for girls and boys aged 9, 10, 11 and 12, representing their school, club or association in teams of all levels. They will compete in a feel good atmosphere against clubs and schools from all regions with the support of the Australian Olympic Committee which includes the presence of Olympians over the weekend. Competitions will be coordinated by Sporting bodies (local, state and in some cases national) and is set to be held over the first weekend of the April school holidays in NSW – 8th and 9th April 2017.

With thanks to recent corporate support from Macquarie Bank cost has been reduced to $40 per person (GST Inc.) for the NPG in 2017.

Please note accommodation packages are strictly for schools only and are set at $140 per person including all meals, with a sleeping bag, towel & pillow required. Please note Team Management will be charged for accommodation. Please refer to Accommodation for further details.

Accommodation Packages available are at an additional cost to NPG registration.

AFL

The AFL will be competed under the NSW/ACT guidelines as a 12 aside full field event played at the Riverside Playing fields. It is expected that each team will play a minimum of four 24 minute games on the Saturday and play a final series on the Sunday at their level. Each team is encouraged to supply an umpire and a match ball. The AFL will be supported by NSW/ACT AFL, Tamworth AFL and the staff of the NIAS AFL Program. Whilst playing 12 a side teams will play under normal AFL  Laws. The convenor will be Tamworth Auskick Head Coach Jon Dadd.

ATHLETICS

The Athletics will be competed under the NSW Little Athletics guidelines as a state multi event hosted at the Tamworth Athletics Track. Each participant will compete in four events on the Saturday before completing their final who events on the Sunday. Participating clubs are required to supply officials for the games. The convenor will be Little Athletics Regional Manager Adam Jolliffe.

BASKETBALL

The Basketball will be competed under the NSW guidelines as a 5 aside event played at the Sports Dome. It is expected that each team will play a minimum of  four 24 minute games on the Saturday and play a final series on the Sunday at their level. Each team is encouraged to bring a match official to assist on the weekend. The Basketball will be supported by Basketball NSW, Tamworth Basketball and the staff of the NIAS Basketball Program. The coordinator will be Tamworth Basketball’s Regional Manager Peter McDonald.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

Accredited Tamworth Coaches and the highly Successful NIAS squad featuring a huge amount of National level experience will be running the 2 day National Primary Games. It is designed to be fun and educational open to all children in year 5 or 6 that see Mountain Biking as the sport for them.

Day 1
10am meet at the Tamworth bike park http://www.tammtb.asn.au/
Session 1 – Bike checks, safety briefs, bike setup and basic bike skills
Session 2 – Basic Skills, cornering, stopping, climbing, pumping
Session 3 – wheel lifts, slalom, jumps, step ups and bump and run
Session 4 – Skills test
4pm end of day activities
Bike park is open to parents to enjoy while the NPG activities are being run

Day 2
9.00am meet at the bike park
Session 1 – Guided trail ride and tour of the park
Session 2 – Time trial and eliminator practice
Session 3 – Eliminator
12.00 pm days – activities complete

FOOTBALL

The Football will be competed under the FFA guidelines as an 11 a-side event for the U11/U12 and as a 9 a-side event for U9/U10. Games will be played at the Gipps St playing fields, the home of football in Tamworth. It is expected that each team will play a minimum of four 24 minute games on the Saturday and play a final series on the Sunday at their level. The Football is sanctioned by NNSW Football and will be run with thanks to the support of Northern Inland Football and the staff of the NIAS Football Program. A canteen will be in operation throughout the weekend. The convenor will be NIF Technical Director and NIAS Head Coach Howard Stubbs.

GYMNASTICS – Girls Only $60 per gymnast

The girls will compete across all apparatus on the Saturday only (depending on numbers the event may run over two days). The Gymnastics will be hosted by the Tamworth Gymnastics Club and will be convened by the McGinnity family (Coordinator Jodie McGinnity) who each have a wealth of experience in organising championships and coaching at the highest level. HOCKEY

Hockey NSW endorses the modified format of this event. It will be a Super 8 format (8 v 8), half field played at the Tamworth Hockey Club. It is expected that each team will play a minimum of four 24 minute games on the Saturday and play a final series on the Sunday at their level. The Hockey will be supported by Hockey NSW, Tamworth Hockey and the staff of the NIAS Hockey Program. There will be a canteen available all weekend run by the Tamworth Hockey Club. The convenor will be Steven Littlejohns (NIAS Head Coach) with assistance of Hockey NSW.

NETBALL

The Netball will be competed under the NSW guidelines as a 7 a-side full court event played at the Tamworth Netball Courts. It is expected that each team will play a minimum of four 24 minute games on the Saturday and play a final series on the Sunday at their level. Each team is encouraged to provide an umpire to assist with officiating over the weekend. The Netball will be supported by NSW Netball, Tamworth Netball and the staff of the NIAS Netball Program. The convenor will be a representative from Tamworth Netball supported by Kirstie Fuller Head Coach Netball at NIAS.

RUGBY LEAGUE

The League will be competed under the CRL Pathways guidelines with the U9/U10 playing rules as per U10 playing requirements and the U11/U12 playing s per U12 playing requirements. The Rugby League will be played at the Plain St Playing Fields. It is expected that each team will play a minimum of four 24 minute games on the Saturday and play a final series on the Sunday at their level. The League is supported by CRL and NRL . The convenor will be Northern Inland NSW NRL Development Manager Luke Taylor.

RUGBY UNION

The Rugby will be competed under the ARU Pathways guidelines as a 7 a-side half field event for U10 only and will be played in the Spirit of the Olympic theme at the Riverside Fields. Teams will play up to 90 minutes of Rugby over four games on the Saturday and play a final series on the Sunday at their level. The Rugby will be supported by NSW Rugby and the staff of the NIAS Rugby Program. The convenor will be NSW Rugby Regional Manager Garry Walsh.

TENNIS

The Tennis will compete at the North West Tennis Centre (Treloar St Courts). The competition will be separated for boys and girls with teams of four needing to be nominated. Each team will compete in four doubles matches on the Saturday and then each team will play in a final series at their level on the Sunday. The tennis is being convened by NIAS Coach and North West Tennis Centre Manager Jarrod Campbell. Tennis will compete in doubles throughout the weekend. All teams will need to be available on Saturday for the 8:00am Managers Meeting. The girls competition begins at 8:30am and the boys at 9:00am.

WATER POLO

The Water polo will compete at Scully Park Pool and will be under the played with the support of NSW Water Polo supported by the Tamworth Water Polo Association. Competition for U11/U12 will be played under the Water Polo NSW official rules and U9/U10 will be competing as a ‘flipperball’ competition. The water polo convenor is Rebecca Mair with the assistance of Craig and Gail Salter (Coaches of NIAS Water Polo).

Games Celebration Function

NPG Games Celebration Function (GCF) will be held over dedicated lunch time breaks at the Riverside Sporting Complex, Tamworth Hockey, Treloar Tennis Park and Scully Park Pool. The event will feature Australian Olympians and other special guests.

Entry is free for athletes and team management. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
